The Man Who Would Be Dead (2005) (Colour/Black & White, 18 Mins)

Two friends living in a house. One wants to kill himself, but can't bring himself to do it, so he hires a hitman. However all hell brakes loose when he decides he no longer wants to die, and the hitman because of his ethical code won't take no for an answer. The Man Who Would Be Dead is also known as Samurai Squid, and exsist in several different versions, one of which being 35 minutes and with a more chronological narrative structure. However this shorter version, runs at a faster pace and uses title cards, and a back and forth time frame to enhance the story. The film was written in 2004, and filmed over a weekend in Cambridge in January 2005 before finally being finished in May that year. The pub at the end of the film is The Green Dragon in Cambridge and the film is the first to feature S&J regular Tim Chichester.
